Production Car Trial - November 16th
Despite this event being the first SDMC car trial since 1984, it seemed to go quite well! The weather was fine, and although the start was an early one it let everybody
have four attempts at four tests, the cars double entered did not have a chance to cool down all day! From the entry of 13 the overall win went to Duncan Cameron in the Peugeot 106 with only 10 penalties scored. Close behind and winning the Front Wheel Drive class in the same 106 was Gordon Reid on 13 penalties, with the Rear-Drive class won by Paul Allison on 45 penalties in the wholly unsuitable K-Series powered Caterham! Well done to all our competitors and thanks to all the marshals and officials, to Wattie Grant for the use of the field and to Nick Walker for the use of his shed for the BBQ! If you have any comments or feedback from the event we'd love to hear from you, so please email roy@sdmc.co.uk. Results are online here.
Trophy Sponsors - A thankyou!
The club sends it's thanks to three individuals who answered the call for Trophy Sponsors. To John Clark, who, through Belmont Communications sponsors the inaugural SDMC Seniors Trophy, and to Barry Groundwater, who through Groundwater Lift Trucks has donated the SDMC Juniors Trophy. Our thanks to both companies! And special thanks goes to Leslie Spilman-Vie who privately donated the new Ladies award - The John W. Beggs Trophy in memory of her father. We hope the recipients of the new trophies will keep them properly Brasso'd!
2008 Stonehaven & District Motor Club Champion - Peter Stark
The sums have been done and the name that sits at the top of the end of year table is that of Stonehaven's Peter Stark. Universal congratulations go out to Pete who's Mk1 Cavalier and 1200 Corsa have been doing the rounds at all the local Autotests and Road Rallies, taking numerous class wins in the process. Commisserations to 16 year old Ross Hynd who came in a close 2nd to Pete, only two points seperating the two after a 17-round championship. North East 25 Classic / Hairst Rally - 25-26th October
Congratulations go out to Andrew Smith and Sam Wainwright who, after a fantastic drive, became the third winners of the North East 25 Classic Rally. Andrew and Sam barely put a wheel wrong throughout the course of the event, with their speed and consistency over the three legs sealing the win from the Escort of 2006 winners John Ruddock and John Heppell, and defending champions Archie and Richard Simmonds in the MG Midget. Further congratulations to Adrian Stewart and Ross Hynd who won the amalgamated H1/H2 class, to John Bertram and Andrew Fish who took the H5 award, and to Chris Collie and Roy Kemp for winning the Modern class. Full NE25C Results list now online here and Hairst Results available here.
Event Organisation
The club depends on having people who are willing to give up a few weekends a year and take on the responsibility of organising and running events, in recent years however it's been noted that the same faces keep appearing as Clerks of the Course and Event Secretaries. We're looking for some new blood to step up and give the regulars a break every now and again, as they want out to play occasionally too! No qualifications or experience are required, just some enthusiasm and a love of the sport! New candidates will be given all support and advice necessary, even if you are interested in shadowing an organising team at an event to get a feel for it, please get in touch with Sue Hynd.
